- 22 April – Ekofisk oil field blowout: an oil well blowout occurred at the Ekofisk Bravo platform, due to an incorrectly installed downhole safety valve[1]. At an estimated 80,000–126,000 barrels (13,000–20,000 m3) total, this is the largest blowout in the North Sea.
